A match made in heaven: chocolate and banana, teaming up to create the most scrumptious, moist, and not-so-innocent banana bread ever. Perfect for breakfast or a sneaky midnight snack!

  • Cooking Method: Baking
  • Prep Time: 15 minutes
  • Cook Time: 60 minutes
  • Total Time: 75 minutes
  • Cuisine Type: Dessert

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Cooking Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan, or use a non-stick cooking spray. Because nobody likes banana bread stuck like a barnacle to the pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Your dry dream team.
  3. In another bowl, mix the mashed bananas, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and sour cream until well combined. The wetter, the better!
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined. Don’t overmix! This isn’t a workout.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips. Yes, all of them. Maybe sneak one or two.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Smooth the top and give it a gentle shake to even out the batter.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Avoid any swashbuckling with the oven door!
  8. Let the banana bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely. Try not to eat it all while it’s still warm. (Good luck with that!)

Suggestions

  • Substitute some of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for a more wholesome loaf.
  • Sprinkle a handful of chopped walnuts or pecans on top before baking for a nice crunch.
  • For a healthier twist, swap the butter with an equal amount of coconut oil.
  • Top with a dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of melted chocolate for an extra touch of decadence.
  • If you’re feeling fancy, serve slices with a dollop of whipped cream and fresh berries.
